Making sense of the non-sensical world of American politics

I am something of an enigma, an anomaly, a contradiction in terms.  I was born and raised in the South, was very much shaped by the South, went to school and college in the South and remain steadfastly loyal to my friends, family, sports teams and the great cultural traditions of the South.  However, bucking the contemporary demographic trend of northerners infiltrating the south in search of better weather and cheaper real estate, I swam against the tide and relocated to New York City in search of intolerable winters, grouchy waitresses and almost comical living quarters.  That said, I absolutely made the right decision.  The harshness and cruelty of New York City is far surpassed by her energy, diversity, spontaneity, tolerance, public transportation and, of course, the Magnolia Bakery.

This blog will be an attempt to share my opinions concerning the important issues and current events of the day.  My goal is for the blog to be at all times thought-provoking and, at least some of the time, insightful.  The blog will be mostly of a political nature; although, being an avid sports fan, I expect that I will stray into that arena from time to time as well.  I follow politics to understand reality and sports to escape it.  I have no expectations or illusions of drawing consistent readers to the blog, but if that should happen, I look forward to friendly dialogue and debate, the cordial exchange of ideas and respectful disagreements.  All of which should be grounded in the good ole southern tradition of hospitality and courtesy (which I have yet to lose…..I hope).

  2. With great respect for Maia’s opinion and judgement of talent and character, I look forward to your upcoming posts. Knew Maia in high school, but I have remained an Ohio girl, a corn fed country girl that loves the arts, music, libraries, fine restaurants and general excitement of the big cities, but is happiest when I get back home.
